Eureka! Classics | Virtually every track on this blistering DVD is either a hit or a classic album track from the legendary Stranglers.

The Stranglers formed in September 1974 in Guildford, Surrey. They began as a pub rock group, but later branched out to explore other styles of music using psychedelia, Doors-like keyboards and the driving aggression of punk and new wave.
The great tunes, the driving bass lines, the melodic guitars and the intricate keyboards gelled and in no time they had a album-full of classics under their belts including ‘No More Heroes’ and ‘Peaches’. They were anti establishment, anti music press and in danger of self parody at times, but their innate humour, and black leather clad style somehow transcended the criticism of the politically correct. Even when Hugh Cornwell left they continued their rampaging style, with Paul Roberts taking over on lead vocals.
They enjoyed some of their biggest success with softer melodies like ‘Strange Little Girl’ and, of course, ‘Golden Brown’ and that side is reflected in the additional acoustic set on this DVD. Now they are a hard driving aggressive combo that still sell out venues all over Europe, and their last album Norfolk Coast is well represented here.

Accompanying the music is the mini-feature film, Norfolk Coast.

Norfolk Coast features Jean Jacques Burnel of The Stranglers in his first main screen role as Warner. Left by his wife Wendy (Lynsey Baxter), Warner struggles to come to terms with her subsequent suicide. He returns to his native Norfolk where he tries to rationalise his memories of a childhood torn apart by incest and an adherence to a strange cult. He turns to his older cousin Linda, played by acclaimed Academy Award nominated actress Susannah York, for help and advice but instead seeks his own way out through confronting his father, Tucker, (Nicholas Ball). All the conflicting strands in his life begin to unwind and we are left with a question mark hanging over what is the true reality of Warner’s situation. Strangely atmospheric, reminiscent of movies like the Wicker Man and even Performance, the film blends landscape and a nightmarish take on family life to produce an unsettling and haunting picture.

A rough cut version of the film premiered before 2500 fans at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire. It had its full premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007 and has won various awards at film festivals worldwide
