Hot Titles Coming This Summer…

Now in May we are all looking forward to summer, and the release of our final Masters of Cinema twinpack in our Kenji Mizoguchi series – Akasen Chitai and Yokihi. Akasen Chitai was sadly, the very last film by Kenji Mizoguchi. Both Akasen Chitai and Yokihi were nominated for the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival

Also in May we have 10cc – Clever Clogs – Classic tracks from one of the most interesting and talented bands to ever grace the world of music, are all included in this live collection of songs alongside new tracks and presented on DVD for the very first time.

Moving into June Another Music DVD, The Stranglers – On Stage/On Screen – Virtually every track on this blistering DVD is either a hit or a classic album track from the legendary Stranglers. The concert recorded at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire was a sell-out and was described by long time manager Sil Wilcox as their greatest ever live gig.

A subject that is on everyones mind at the moment is Climate change, June 23rd sees the release of The Truth About Climate Change featuring Sir David Attenborough, this two part documentary is presented by Sir David Attenborough who asks the question “What is the future for our world?“ Sir David discovers that the world is warming at an unprecedented rate, and finds out why this is now far beyond any normal allowance for cyclical fluctuation. But are humans to blame? These changes are already in motion whatever we do now, but Sir David believes that we may be able to act to prevent a catastrophe.

A date for everyones diary should be July 18th – This marks the general release of Mad Detective – Directed by Johnnie To and Wai Ka Fai – Breaking new ground and establishing new cinematic rules, Johnnie To’s latest giddily entertaining collaboration with Wai Ka Fai radically raises the level of storytelling in modern film. This ingenious realisation of a supernaturally gifted copper is fast-paced and furious, yet also complex and disturbingly funny. If you can’t wait until then The film will be premiering at the Tiger far East Film Festival (May 29-June 8) at the ICA in London.

Due for release in late Summer is Carl Th. Dreyer’s seminal horror, Vampyr. Beautifully restored, this is a very special release and one not to be missed… Among the mass of features there is an audio commentary by oscar winning director Guillermo del Toro.
