I wonder what is the

I wonder what is the situation with High Noon? It was sublicensed to Olive of all labels in US, and it looks like it's Universal title in UK, but they don't seem to be interested enough to release it themselves.

Juzo Itami's Tampopo also would be nice ;)

German Edition

StudioCanal have released an excellent edition of High Noon in Germany if yoy want a region B Blu-Ray, its available from Amazon.de. and looks and sounds amazing. The disc also includes the 50 min documentary 'Inside High Noon' and the 22 documentary 'Making of High Noon'. You can turn the German subtitles off from the main menu. The only down side is that the 16 page booklet which looks really interesting is printed in German (as you would expect coming from Germany!).

Antonioni

Antonioni's wonderful three-parts documentary on China, Chung-Kuo would really need an Eureka treatment. I watched an italian dvd but I'm sure it could look much, much better!

Pialat!

Please release some more of Maurice Pialat's on BluRay. Van Gogh is amazing and since they have already been released in France why not pop out Sous le Soleil de Satan, Police, A nos amours, Loulou, Nous ne vieillirons pas ensemble?

Late MGM Silents

I know that it will never happen but how about releasing some of the late MGM silent on Blu-Ray (or even DVD), to my knowledge none of the following titles have ever been released on any home video format in the UK, and of the rest only three have made it to DVD anywhere else the world:

The Wind (1928), The Scarlet Letter (1926) both Victor Sjöström

La bohème (1926),  The Crowd (1928) both King Vidor

The Cameraman (1928), Spite Marriage (1929) both Buster Keaton /  Edward Sedgwick

The Wind and The Crowd are

The Wind and The Crowd are both on DVD in Spain, but I wouldn't answer for the quality - with Spain it'll either be surprisingly good or a fourth generation video dupe.

Spanish Releases

I totally agree, I have the Spanish DVD version of The Wind. Its the Turner Classic Movies version with a score by Carl Davis. However the picture and sound quality are really bad, the best version on any home video format remains the 1980's American VHS version unfortunately.

On the other hand, as you say there are some really good Blu-Ray's available from Spain, I have seen Hitchcock's Downhill (which is the BFI restored Version),  The General (which features the superior Cohen Collection version) and the Big Parade (which is exactly the same as the American release minus the digibook) . With the exception of the Big Parade all these good Spanish releases seem to come from one company - called Divisa.

Cheers

Thanks for this, I plan to get  The General and Big Parade whwn i get paid!

Jan Švankmajer

I would love to see a Jan Švankmajer movie up next especially Faust (Lekce Faust) or Little Otik (Otesánek)

Soviet cinema

is completely absent from MoC's catalogue, I believe? And since this label proudly champions silent movies, I think it should look into it.

I would happily pay for any

I would happily pay for any of these. I'm no expert on rights and such, but so far I've failed to find these for the B-region from a reliable source. It would be sweet to find even one of them here one day.

Woman in the Dunes (Hiroshi Teshigahara), and Pitfall.

Just about anything by Mizoguchi or Ozu

Häxan

A box set of The Human Condition 1-3

Rififi chez les hommes (Jules Dassin)

Flicka och Hyacinter (Hasse Ekman)

Kuroi Ame (Shohei Imamura)

My MoC wishlist

More than anything in the world I would love Eureka/MoC to work their magic on some of my favourite films. Last time I checked they're either from studios they've worked with before (Paramount, Universal, MGM/Fox) or are otherwise attainable (though I obviously don't know the specifics - i.e. are the prints of worthy quality to be restored). Anyway, here are my 'wants':

Terrence Malick's Days Of Heaven (1978)

Werner Herzog's Where The Green Ants Dream (1984), Signs Of Life (1968), Invincible (2001) and Even Dwarfs Started Small (1970)

Steven Soderbergh's Schizopolis (1996)

King Hu's Dragon Inn (1967)

David Gordon Green's George Washington (2000)

Peter Weir's Witness (1985), The Last Wave (1977) and Galippoli (1982)

Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets (1973)

Terry Zwigoff's Ghost World (2000)

Chris Marker's Sans Soleil (1983) and La Jetée (1962)

John Sayles' Lone Star (1996)

Apitchatpong Weerasethakul's Mysterious Object at Noon (2000)

Djibril Diop Mambety's Touki Bouki (1973)

Wu Yonggang's The Goddess (1934)

Andrew Dominik's Chopper (2000)

Haskell Wexler's Medium Cool (1969)

Luis Buñuel's Los Olvidados (1950)

Sidnet Lumet's Network (1976) and The Verdict (1982)

Shadi Abdel Salam's The Night of Counting the Years (1969)

Paul Thomas Anderson's Hard Eight (1998)

Henri-Georges Clouzot's The Wages Of Fear (1953)

Souleymane Cissé's Yeelen (1987)

Takeshi Kitano's Hana-Bi (1998)

Peter Bogdanovich's Targets (1968) and Paper Moon (1973)

Jean Cocteau's La Belle et la Bête (1946)

Errol Morris' A Brief History Of Time (1991)

Mario Peixato's Limite (1931)

Richard Linklater's Waking Life (2002)

Saul Bass' Phase IV (1974)

Kim Ki-young's The Housemaid (1960)

Hal Ashby's Bound For Glory (1976) and Coming Home (1978)

Alexander Payne's Citizen Ruth (1996)

Fred Zinnemann and Emilio Gomez Muriel's Redes (1936)

Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samouraï (1967)

Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger's A Matter Of Life and Death (1946)

Gregory Nava's El Norte (1983)

Fei Mu's Spring In A Small Town (1948)

Takashi Koizumi's After The Rain (1999)

Dragon inn

King Hu's Dragon inn seems to be the first one from your list to make it to Moc collection.

Also...

Forgot to mention...anything by Len Lye, Norman McLaren, Stan Brakhage, Oskar Fischinger, Lotte Reiniger, Jan Svankmajer, Jiri Trnka etc would be a blessing! That's if the BFI don't get there first :)

Johnny Guitar would be a great choice.

Great Photography, colours are amazing and it has been restored a while ago.

also Mildred Pierce with Joan Crawford as well as David Miller's Sudden Fear.

Fritz Lang's Fury

Louis Malles's Viva Maria

Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca

Woo!

According to Eureka's Facebook, a couple of the next MoC titles will be Claude Lanzmann's Shoah (an upgrade from the DVD release), and more excitingly King Hu's Dragon Inn! So that's one off my list above already :D

Rushmore

I've registered just so I can say I would love you forever if you did Wes Anderson's Rushmore. There's no Region B version. It's killing me!

Chinese cinema

There have to be many Chinese classic films just dying for a top notch restoration and issue on Blu-ray that would be ideal for release in the MoC series. "Lian hua jiao xiang qu" is one I would love to see, especially as Mu Fei's "Xiao cheng zhi chun" is apprently coming on another label.  Equally there are more recent films from China from the likes of Kaige Chen ("Ba wang bie ji"for instance) and Yimou Zhang ("Da hong deng long gao gao gua" for instance) that are currently not available on Blu-ray outside of Region C. Heck anything from those two or featuring Li Gong would do, especially Yimou Zhang's earlier films which are criminally lacking from the Blu-ray catalogue right now.

Definitely more Kobayashi...

Masaki Kobayashi's The Human Condition 1-3 & Samarai Rébellion

Powell and Pressburger's Tales Of Hoffman & A Matter Of Life And Death

Jaques Rivette's Out 1

John Cassavetes' Husbands

Tony Richardson's Look Back In Anger

I can't wait to see Fellini's I Clowns, but I'd very much like to see you release La Dolce Vita & Amarcord also

Alejandro Jodorowsky's El Topo, Santa Sangre,  & The Holy Mountain

Peter Greenaway's The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover

Anything from Andrei Tarkovsky

I bet a collection of The Marx Brothers' works would make a great box set too

Also I would love to see a documentary showing how you actually find, restore and distribute films. I suspect that would be rather fascinating.

ps

More Max Ophuls would be appreciated also ;)

PUTNEY SWOPE

Robert Downey Sr.'s classic advertising satire PUTNEY SWOPE needs some MoC love!

MoC wishes

I see a real -and Moc will be the first!- edition with films of Susumu Hani (what a dream!), why not, a good, fine, the best one you d make  Foolish Wives of Stroheim with excellent transfers, L Amour Fou of Rivette -hard to find!-, a beautiful edition of Donzoko,Kurosawa spirit, and Mizoguchi of course, Aien kyo The street of love and hate...After all, Criterion collection and Artificial eye: we don t care...

A few new directors

Directors not yet in the MoC collection and my top wish blu ray for each:

Erich Von Strohiem: The wedding march

Frank Capra: It happened one night

Fritz Lang (american period) Fury

Woody Allen: The purple rose of Cairo

Ingmar Bergman: Wild strawberries

King Vidor: The Crowd

Powell & Pressburger: A matter of life and death

Oh hell just kep on releasing films as you are doing!

It's a shame that MGM/Fox

It's a shame that MGM/Fox hasn't released their big Woody Allen Collection on Blu-Ray - I'm a big fan of his work, but I would grudge paying £25 per film to import the Twilight Time editions. I doubt that there could be any video extras, considering Allen's opinion of them, so it would probably be possible to fit 2 films on a disc without any compression issues.

What's Up, Tiger Lily?

Take The Money and Run

Bananas

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid to Ask)

Sleeper

Love and Death

Interiors

Stardust Memories

A Midsummer's Night Sex Comedy

Zelig

Broadway Danny Rose

The Purple Rose of Cairo

Hannah and Her Sisters

Radio Days

September

Another Woman

Crimes and Misdemeanours

Alice

Shadows and Fog

19 films (presuming that Annie Hall and Manhattan are unlicensable) = 10-15 discs? Potentially 2-3 box sets each with 5 discs? It's admittedly unlikely, but would be amazing.

MoC Wish…

Ugo Falena, Giuliano l'Apostata (1919). I've only seen a taped-from-TV copy, but it's visually stunning (Art Nouveau meets Byzantine designs by Duilio Cambellotti), with a specially-composed orchestral and choral score by Luigi Mancinelli. I would love to see a proper digital restoration of it. OK, it's tosh historically (much of the plotline is reduced to love-triangles), but it is a beautiful film that puts me in mind of Lang's Die Nibelungen.

Forgot link…

There's a good article on it here:

G. Pucci: Peplum, Melodrama and Musicality.

The next MoC

Love to see some Jean Gremillon come to the collection. There is a restoration of La Petite lise on the horizon from Pathe which needs some contextual back up since it's revolutionary use of sound is  up there with M and Blackmail. (Maybe also David Cairns film on Natan the producer ?) Other Grem gems are the silent Maldone and Gabin in Gueule d'Amour

Suggestions

  The Magnificent Ambersons (Welles, 1942)

Duck Soup or Horse Feathers (Marx Brothers, et al.)

The Big Sky (Howard Hawks, 1952)

Gone to Earth (Powell & Pressburger, 1950)

The Devil is a Woman (Josef von Sternberg, 1935)

  Anything by Max Ophuls . . . .

Yes for The Big Sky.  I've

Yes for The Big Sky.  I've just seen it but on a horrible dvd, that I think used a VHS transfer.  I really loved the film, it needs better treatment.

One more
